To question the basic idea of the current vertical housing type, we rethink the idea of “Room” in the contemporary housing typology. The contemporary collective housing should shape the idea of community for residents and enable them to share not only elevators and stairs but also senses and emotions. We are imaging a community where people can share sunlight and air and feel the change of time together.
Therefore, the idea of the room started to transform into series of platforms, some of them are half-enclosed and some of them are open according to the function of the space.
The elimination of corridors inside the units is one of the major achievements in our proposal, which frees humans from the enclosed and fixed hierarchy of rooms. The hierarchy here means the different quality of sunlight and air in each room. The structure and the new way to arrange rooms enable each unit to “SHARE THEIR VOIDS”, creating a sense of community and better living standard.
